Cairn India has looked to the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to provide a direction to CSR activities that are in tune with global perspectives on development needs and strategies. Key issues that the MDGs address focus on poverty, education, gender justice and health.(Read more here.) The MDG report card released by the Overseas Development Institute and the United Nations Millennium Campaign reviews development progress across countries and finds that India is among the top 20 countries to have achieved progress. Yet there are many areas that require sustained effort and investment to achieve improvement. We continue in the tradition of our corporate responsibility to play our part in achieving India’s development goals. We strengthen the local economy through business generated by our operations. Our community development strategies are designed and implemented through consultation and partnership with local authorities, NGOs and other organizations. At the national level, analysis of development priorities and multi-level consultations identify appropriate areas for social investment, and plans are developed and implemented through participatory methods at district and community levels.
