Exploration activities underway in the Mumbai offshore and Palar-Pennar blocks

Mumbai Offshore Basin: MB-DWN-2009/1 (Operator: Cairn India, 100% participating interest)

This block was awarded under the NELP VIII licensing round and is located in the Mumbai Offshore Basin. Environmental clearance was obtained for the acquisition of a 2D survey in early 2012. Processing of the recently acquired 2,128 km of 2D broadband seismic data was completed. Options for the acquisition of 3D seismic data are under consideration.

Palar-Pennar Basin: PR-OSN-2004/1 (Operator: Cairn India, 35% participating interest)

This block is located between discoveries in the Krishna-Godavari and Cauvery basins. After interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic data, three prospects were identified for drilling and exploration activities are underway. Further to agreement with the Government of India regarding restricted boundary, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) granted excusable delays and approved a further extension of Exploration Phase I. Approval for a special dispensation period of 30 months was granted on 31 December and the revised date of the expiry of Phase-1 is now 30 June 2017.
