Technical training:

Innovative application of state-of-the-art technology is at the heart of our business and one of the key reasons for our success. This is amply demonstrated in the numerous path-breaking achievements of Cairn, Oil & Gas vertical of Vedanta Limited - building the world's longest, continuously heated and insulated pipeline; applying aggressive oil recovery models; increasing production by 15 times in Ravva, one of the largest onshore discoveries in India; or developing the Mangala Processing Terminal (MPT) - a facility with state-of-the-art design and with minimum carbon footprint.

Continuous technical capability development of our talent is an imperative and remains a top priority across the organization. Our time to autonomy is one of the best in-class. We have invested 6455 mandays of technical training in 2012-13 through a combination of in-house training and external programs. We have strong partnerships with industry leaders such as SPE, IHRDC, Petroskills, NeXT, Nautilus etc. that help us fulfil our commitment for superior technical capability building. Cairn has deployed a Competency Management System in partnership with IHRDC to aid in competency and career development of talent.


Continuing education:

We support continuing education to develop technical competency in the organization. Cairn’s Education Assistance Program has helped many employees to pursue higher education at some of the most reputed universities in the world and return to Cairn with enriched knowledge. The Cairn Technical Forum is an internal platform for engineers to showcase and share their innovative contributions. This is also a stepping stone for them to reach out to a larger audience outside Cairn and present papers in national and international forums. Till date more than 70 such papers have been presented in external forums.


Mentoring & coaching:

While formal training plays a key role, informal learning through mentoring is a key differentiator at Cairn. The presence of a large number of senior technical experts with a penchant for grooming talent truly contributes to this culture of development and growth. This has enabled core technical talent to grow their career and develop themselves along a technical pathway.
